Bringing back the fashion
If there’s one part of the body that doesn’t get the attention it deserves while shopping, its the back of our body. Questioning why its “overlooked” can be extinguished by a funny but simple answer that it is…behind our eyes. We catch a look of it in a mirror now and then, yes but we still do not get to appreciate the allurance of a flat back every day. It’s more noticeable to others than to oneself. Even when you’re wearing the most poise of your open-back dress, you do not get to see the viewer’s expression or reaction to the dress, making you a little more frivolous about the existence or importance of it. Palais Galliera’s new exhibition ‘Back Side- Fashion from Behind’ honours and more-so puts the spotlight on mannequins wearing dresses which elegantly exposes the backs in different designs. These meticulously sculpted mannequins are arranged in a way that they stand facing the wall hence letting the viewers take a look at what the intricate design of the back truly has to offer. This exhibition holds a subliminal collection of clothes and accessories starting from the vintage designs of the 18th century to the captivating designs of the new world of dressing. Galliera’s collection is sure to start a dialogue with the leading brands in fashion like Raf Simons, Yves Saint Laurent and Thierry Mugler for how it closes the gap between art and fashion. The exhibition does not offer you the luxury of buying the dresses and accessories on display but it sure will make you walk out with having received a new perspective to your style of dressing, quite literally.
