Onboard this floating Mecca of Art
From Pablo Picasso to Joan Miro, passengers setting sail on the maiden voyage of the gorgeous Seven Seas Splendour ship will get to admire and walk amongst a 5 million dollar art collection, consisting of over 300 pieces of art sourced from artists and galleries around the world – starting from February 2020.
Brainchild of none other than the team behind Regent Seven Seas Cruises, this idea seeks to transform the conventional luxury cruise ship experience into an aesthetic, artistic and memorable journey. From the hallways of the ship to the dining room to the galleries, works of famous artists across all mediums (mixed media, oil, canvas, photographs, watercolors, sculptures) such as Roberto Matta and Wilfredo Lam will hang, positioned in such a way as to catch your eye.
Great care was taken in the positioning of each work of art, including factors such as the historical significance of the paintings. The cruise was designed in the hope of transforming casual passengers into lovers of international and contemporary art, and to promote discussion.
The key installation and crown jewel of this art collection will be placed at the very centre of the ship – a huge, colorful dragon rising from under the ship and stretching its wings to the very top of the ceiling – and will greet tourists as they enter the ship’s main restaurant, Pacific Rim. Aside from the paintings and sculptures, the Seven Seas Splendour also boasts 216 hand-crafted, luxurious chandeliers in its public spaces, rooms and lounges.
The Seven Seas Splendour, which is currently being built with perfect craftsmanship in Italy, has been designed as being the ultimate luxury cruise ship. Aside from 14 varieties of luxury suites offered as accomodation, it has made the most of natural lighting by featuring over 52000 square feet of balconies. She also boasts of five different restaurants with a variety of cuisines, an in-house spa, and several more amenities.
